Experiential Learning

A Pingree education is dynamic, provocative, and exciting. Our students are consistently challenged to step out of the traditional academic setting and into real world situations that compel them to draw from and expand upon the knowledge they’ve acquired in the classroom. With ample opportunity for service learning, civic engagement, cultural exchange, internships, and independent projects, Pingree students learn by doing—by taking initiative, making their own decisions, meeting new people, and getting their hands dirty.

Learning Across Borders (LAB)

International LAB
The international Learning Across Borders (LAB) program seeks to provide students and teachers with opportunities to engage meaningfully with people, cultures, and languages different from their own through immersion in academic, artistic, social, and cultural learning experiences.

Past exchanges include Spain, Denmark, England, France, Mexico, and Taiwan.

Local LAB
With an emphasis on experiential learning, service, and community-building, the Local LAB program allows students to visit significant local sites and landmarks and take advantage of the many resources—both cultural and natural—that surround Pingree’s campus.

Recent trips include visits to Google's Cambridge Office, the Boston Museum of African-American History and Black Heritage Trail, the Massachusetts State House, and the Lawrence Heritage Park and Immigration Workshop at Lowell Mills.

Civic Engagement

Social justice is at the very heart of Pingree’s Civic Engagement program. Our civic engagement philosophy involves learning how to serve and participate through listening, being available, reflecting, relating, and acting thoughtfully. Throughout their years at Pingree, students learn how to plan, lead, and inspire civic engagement in others at Pingree and in the larger community.

Senior Projects

Pingree's Senior Project program seeks to enrich the personal and professional development of our students by offering the opportunity to conceptualize, execute, and present an independent study project. Past projects have included a stint at a sustainable sheep farm, the shadowing of an infectious disease specialist, and an internship with NBC's Al Roker. Students are encouraged to write, sculpt, build, research, teach, observe, volunteer, or perform — the options are rich and varied.
